Lucky Magazine Feature: Prabal Gurung Resort 2012-Inspired Nails

I can't tell you how excited I was to be selected for a feature in the "From the Blogs" section of Lucky's January issue. With Lucky's Jen Ford I chose this amazing Prabal Gurung's Resort 2012 look. I loved wearing this look and I'm crazy about how the feature turned out in the magazine. Go buy yours now and flip straight to page 57!

Stella McCartney Fall 2011-Inspired Nails

Stella McCartney's quirky, sexy Fall 2011 collection had several standout elements, but her surprising use of peekaboo polka dots outshone all the rest (even those amazing structured gold lame pieces). I love how she avoided the trap of overly sheer runway shows and found an inventive way to show off and enhance the female form. I knew the mix of nude and black would translate well to nails and that the extreme curves dots would add another element of fun.

For the base I picked my favorite nude, OPI Tickle My France, because it most closely matches my skin color. I used my trusty black with the most narrow brush for the curves and dots and threw in a white nail look for a little variety. I think these are my most favorite nails I've done yet!

Prada Spring Summer 2011 Nails

I was originally going to do my nails inspired by Prada's now-iconic platform brogues, but getting the actual brogue treatment right seemed too daunting. I settled on a more simple rendition of the Prada black and blue stripes. I used an OPI white polish for the base, then did a rounded blue tip with Essie and a very careful half-moon in black. The result? Confirmation that I need more Prada in my life.

Proenza Schouler-Inspired Nails Round 2: Fall 2011

My latest nail endeavor was spurred by a very sweet present of OPI's sold out Shatter polish and a fortuitous broken nail, both of which happened to take place during NYFW. As always, I was inspired by Proenza Schouler. Their Fall 2011 collection was inspired by a trip they took through the American West. I tried to capture the mix of bold colors and graphic black accents by layering two different shades of blue and neon orange underneath the black shatter polish. I really liked the results, very different from my normal polish routine.

Rodarte Nails: Solid Gold

This holiday season I've fallen in love with OPI's Glitzerland. It is the perfect solid gold that can be both neutral and festive, but the real reason I love it is that it reminds me of Rodarte's Spring 2011 collection. The coverage and color of the nail polish matches the lip color that went down the runway surprisingly accurately. Next step, come up with a way to make the cool Baroque pattern and pop a side barrette.
