Givenchy Spring 2010 Couture

Riccardo Tisci got a lot of attention for his Fall 2009 Couture collection for Givenchy where the heavy Middle Eastern influence stayed just this side of cheesy and turned many Givenchy fans into fanatics. What Tisci did so well was take ancient traditional shapes and themes and use them to redefine what we think of as modern. This season for Spring 2010 Couture, Tisci seemed to turn that same attention to Spain with flamenco dress shapes, bull fighter bolero jackets, and surrealist mosaic embellishments. Tisci was inspired by seventies makeup artist, photographer, and art director Serge Lutens for the dramatic collection. Expect to see these pieces pop up in countless editorials and on the likes, of say, Rihanna.

And, I'll say it right now, I want to see more of Tischi. He is by far my favorite designer bow in all of style.com's images.

Les Nouvelles Sale: IRO, Lover, Eskell, and More

Les Nouvelles is having a pretty great sale and I'm tempted at each of the pieces above. IRO's loose-knit sweater is perfect for transitioning to spring while Lover's sweatshirt cape would probably get mistaken for Alexander Wang, in a good way. Even though it's about 20 degrees outside, I can't resist starting to shop for warmer weather.

IRO Seger Sweater, $198, at shoplesnouvelles.com; Duskin The Party Dress, $357, at shoplesnouvelles.com; Lover Fleece Hooded Circle Cape, $193, at shoplesnouvelles.com; Raasta Bloch Smile Tee, $52, at shoplesnouvelles.com; Raasta Ernst Jumper, $160, at shoplesnouvelles.com; Eskell Clarke Tiered Skirt, $110, at shoplesnouvelles.com

Cavern Collection

People are all excited about Cavern Collection. The LA-based brand is my kind of weird (tie dye, cosmos, antlers, geometry), so I am. Are you?

Dunes Drape, $84, at caverncollection.com; X-Pattern Leggings, $114, at caverncollection.com; Petrichor Antler Necklace, $161, at caverncollection.com

New Shoe Shapes For Spring

I am really into the new clog/mule shoe shape for spring. The tan pair by Deena & Ozzy seem are the perfect way to try out the new trend because at only $48, they are surprisingly versatile. I would wear them with something slightly country to style like Chanel or with something sleek and modern a la Margiela. I wish I could pull off the Miss Sixty pair, but a stiletto mule is a bit much for me. Plus, I'd be slightly embarrassed to buy Miss Sixty.

Deena & Ozzy Mule, $48, at urbanoutfitters.com; Miss Sixty Salima Mule, $269, at ssense.com; Ash Parfum Cuff Ankle Booties, $140, at shopbop.com; Marsell Sandal, $477, at shopworthwhile.com

Geometric Leggings by Neneee

While I love Oak's Black Label leggings, they are out of my price range (for leggings at least). These geometric cut-out lettings on etsy are a great substitute. They aren't quite as slick or chic, but they are much more funky and unique. Sadly the grey is sold out and I'm not sure about wrapping my legs in marbled orange spandex.

Neneee Moon Pants, $68, at etsy.com

Meryl Streep Makes Me Notice the SAG Awards

I don't care at all about the SAG Awards, but Meryl Streep wore Balenciaga and there is literally nothing else she could do to be more awesome. Plus, she looks fantastic.

Sandra Bullock and Anna Paquin both wore Alexander McQueen and looked amazing as well (aside from Anna's sour puss face). Sandra Bullock has been making some surprisingly fashionable choices lately, she might be a dark horse for best dressed at awards shows this year.

Pan Am Beautiful Women Series

After looking into vintage travel posters, specifically vintage Pan Am posters, I found the Pan Am Beautiful Women Series. Starting in the '60s, the airline created an entire campaign based around the women in the exotic destinations they could fly you. The best part is that literally everything about these ads is offensive now. I was led there by Happy Mundane who posted these posters below from 1971-1972. How great are the images and the use of Helvetica. I would love to have any of these on my wall.

Queen Constance

Constance Jablonski, proving that she has well and truly arrived, has made her American Vogue debut in this equestrian themed fashion story shot by Raymond Meier. Somehow Constance makes posing holding a saddle and brushing a giant plastic horse look natural and high fashion while rocking the fabulous jewel tone looks that are all set to be everywhere this coming Spring. We’re not sure if this story makes us want to go shopping or take up horse riding but all we know is that it’s another milestone for Elite’s superstar and we can’t wait for her to take to the catwalk again at London Fashion week. Can she improve on last Season? Watch this space!
